Saturday Night Live, but subsequent seasons saw his popularity arguably grow to eclipse that of any other
SNL player at the time. He started out as a member of L.A.'s famed Groundlings troupe, where he met fellow
SNL-er Chris Kattan. His transition to big-screen stardom happened with
Old School and the surprise hit
Elf.
Striking while the iron was hot and ignoring the risk of Jude Law–like
overexposure, Ferrell immediately signed on to a slew of movie
projects, at one point having as many as 11 films in various states of
production.
